About Portunus

Portunus is a small, self-contained password vault that hides your encrypted entries inside an ordinary picture. There are no servers and no accounts — everything happens in your browser, and the only way in is your master password.

Save your vault

This re-hides everything — including your latest edits — inside the image and downloads it. Overwrite the old file with this new one, or keep both if you want a backup.

There's no recovery or reset — make it a passphrase of a few random words that you'll remember. Minimum 12 characters.

Create a brand new vault, or open one you've already made.

Step 1

Choose a cover image

This picture will carry your encrypted vault. Larger images can hold more entries. Prefer a photo you can recognize but that isn't sensitive itself — anyone can open the file, only you can unlock the data inside it.

Step 2

Set a master password

This is your only key — there's no recovery or reset, so store it somewhere safe. The strongest and most memorable choice is a passphrase: four or more random, unrelated words (e.g. anchor-violet-ledger-tremor). Minimum 12 characters.
